About the club
A5 Rangers is built around regular riding, shared responsibility and a culture where good group habits matter as much as strong legs.
Why we ride
There are easier ways to cover a distance than riding a bicycle, and easier ways to spend a cold Sunday morning than clipping in before breakfast. The appeal is precisely that cycling asks something of you. It rewards patience, consistency and the willingness to keep turning the pedals when the road rises or the wind changes.
Club cycling adds another layer. The route becomes a shared project. People learn one another’s strengths, habits and favourite roads. A difficult day becomes more manageable because the group knows how to settle down, share the work and get everyone home.
Welcoming
New riders should know where they stand, what a ride expects and who to ask when something is unclear.
Dependable
We value riders who turn up prepared, communicate properly and make the group more predictable for everyone around them.
Progressive
Improvement matters, whether that means more speed, more distance, smoother group skills or simply more confidence.
What we value on the road
Respect for the group starts before the ride. A maintained bike, the right kit and enough food are small things that prevent avoidable problems. Once moving, communication and awareness keep the bunch orderly.
We also value restraint. Not every incline needs an attack and not every gap needs to be closed at full gas. Knowing when to press and when to hold position is part of mature group riding.
When members do want a harder session, we make room for that through the ride format. The aim is not to flatten everyone into one pace; it is to create clear expectations so riders can choose the right day and the right group.
Off the bike, the club is straightforward and sociable. Routes, equipment, racing, touring, weather, café stops and questionable mechanical decisions all provide enough material for conversation.
Come and ride with us.
The quickest way to understand a cycling club is to share a few kilometres with it.
